Items Needed (for Two Candy Canes)
- Sandpaper
- Two strands of Christmas lights
- Drill
- Gravel
- Electrical tape
- Spray paint primer
- Red and white spray paint
- 2- 2" 22.5D Street elbows
- 2 - 4 feet of 2" PVC pipe
- 2 - 2" PVC P-trap with union
- 2 - 2" PVC drains with 5 SS strain
- Handsaw or miller saw to cut pipe
To Create
- Using a hand saw or miller saw, gloves, and protective eyewear, cut your pipe to the general size that you want. You can cut smaller pieces for the candy canes or taller ones to complement the existing outside decor.
- Attach the drain piece to one end of the cut pipe and the P-trap piece to the other end of the pipe.
- Insert the street elbow's spigot end into the p-trap. The piping should now be resembling a candy cane shape.
- Spray the entire PVC piping with primer and allow ample drying time.
- Spray two coats of white paint to the PCV piping, allowing for drying time in between coats.
- Once the white paint is fully dry (this may take several days,) wrap the PCV piping in electrical tape, moving up the pipe diagonally.
- Once the tape is fully secure, spray the entire PCV piping in red spray paint. You may need two coats of red paint to cover fully.
- Before the red paint is completely dry, slowly remove the tape.
- Using a drill, drill holes throughout the piping.
- String the Christmas lights through the holes, beginning at the bottom of the pipe and snaking the strand through the pipe. The holes will allow the glow to shine through, but the lights remain tucked inside the piping.
- Remove the drain cover from the bottom of the pipe. Fill with gravel. This will help the candy cane stand upright.
Candy Cane Garland With a Twist
Many people adorn their mantles with garland during December. If you live in a small apartment or a modern space, create a dainty candy cane garland with a colorful twist.
Items Needed
- Paint samples in various colors
- Scissors
- Twine
- Clear tape
- Scissors
- Hole puncher
To Create
- Head to a local paint supply store and gather paint samples. These can be any color hue preferred, but make sure you get enough to span a garland for the space you plan on working with.
- Cut out candy cane shapes from each paint sample. One candy cane per sample.
- Cut a piece of twine. Twine needs to be long enough to span the space you plan to hang the garland from.
- Using a hole punch, punch two holes at the top of each candy cane. Space the punches out slightly and make sure punches are at the top of the candy cane curve.
- Weave the twine through the holes punched in the candy canes.
- Fasten clear tape to the back of the candy canes to secure the candy canes to the twin to limit movement once hung.
- Using clear tape, hang the garland from a mantle or a shelf.
Design a Wreath Sweet Enough to Eat

- White spray paint (optional)
- Red and white ribbon
- Styrofoam balls or disks
- Red paint
- Glitter
- Clear-drying glue
- Artificial gems
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and hot glue
To Create
Follow the wreath tutorial to create a winter wreath using artificial boughs or real evergreen boughs.
- Once your wreath is assembled, you can choose to leave it green or spray paint the wreath using white spray paint.
- Paint the styrofoam balls or disks with red paint, creating designs that look like peppermint candies.
- (Optional) After the balls dry, cover the balls with clear glue. While the glue is still wet, sprinkle glitter on the bulbs. Allow time to dry completely.
- Allow the wreath (if painted) and the styrofoam to dry.
- Using a hot glue gun, attach the painted balls or disks to the wreath.
- At the bottom of the wreath, create a bow using red and white ribbon.
- Attach the bow to the center of the wreath at the bottom, using hot glue.
- Glue glittery beads and adornments to the wreath.

- Terracotta pot
- Red and white paint
- Chopsticks
- Glitter spray paint (silver)
- Clear glue
- Faux snow
- Foam insert for pot
- Foam disks
To Create
- Paint the terra cotta pot white. Allow the pot to dry.
- Create a red and white peppermint candy pattern on the terra cotta pot.
- Set foam insert in the pot.
- Fill the pot with faux snow.
- Paint the chopsticks white and set them aside to dry.
- Paint the foam disks with red paint so that they look like classic peppermint candies.
- Allow the disks to dry.
- Insert the pointed tip of the chopstick into the bottom of the foam disk.
- Insert the bottom of the chopstick into the foam.
- Repeat steps 8-9 for all disks.
- When foam candies and sticks are inserted into the foam, cover the foam with faux snow. Use dots of clear glue to secure.
- Give the craft a few sprays of glitter spray paint.
